🎤 Preparing for the real world starts in the classroom!

These students had the chance to put their interview skills to the test through practice interviews with their professors. Opportunities like this give students a chance to build confidence, sharpen their communication skills, and feel more prepared for future career opportunities.

Making the transition from college to the workforce can come with plenty of nerves and uncertainty, but our professors are dedicated to helping students feel prepared every step of the way.

Because every practice interview is one step closer to walking into the real one with confidence! 💼👏

🌟 JGDSON Alumni Spotlight: September 🌟

This month, we are excited to feature Alexis Givens, a December 2018 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduate who is making a powerful impact beyond the bedside!

Alexis began her nursing journey at CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth, gaining valuable experience on a MedSurg floor caring for GI, trauma, and bariatric patients before finding a passion on the Maternal Unit/Mother-Baby.

Today, Alexis applies her healthcare background to leadership and workplace culture. Over the past year, she and her husband, Robert, launched their own business, Strategy Second, creating leadership development and strategic planning resources for organizations. They also recently published their co-authored book, "Reclaiming Humanity: A Leadership Fable About the Cost of Toxic Culture." Alexis shares that her nursing experience gave her a firsthand look at how deeply workplace culture impacts individuals, inspiring her to advocate for human-centered work environments.

Alexis’s Advice for Current Nursing Students:

"You may not always have the power to change the larger system you're working within, but you can influence the culture immediately around you... Success isn't only about becoming a skilled nurse. How you treat people matters too. You don't need a leadership title to help create an environment where people feel safe to ask questions, admit when they don't know something, support one another, and grow."

Happy Healthcare Simulation Week! JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing is a leader in simulation and has a state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation hospital where hundreds of simulations have been implemented since its inception. This week was no different. The 3rd-semester Community Health students participated in a simulation involving a Standardized Patient with congestive heart failure. Thank you to our faculty and simulation staff for designing these immersive experiences that prepare our students to deliver safe, exceptional patient care! #
