2024 Washington Economics Symposium at WWU - STEM Clock Hour Opportunity!

Financial and economic education is facing an uphill battle in Washington State. The Washington Economics Symposium is your chance to help address this. With the recent failure of HB 1915, which would have made financial education a prerequisite for high school graduation, this conference aims to bridge the financial and economic training gap in our educational system. Join educators, business leaders, and government officials to tackle pressing economic issues and attend workshops with hands-on instructional resources to advance economic and financial literacy in Washington.

There are two amazing speaker tracks. Registration also includes breakfast, lunch, and a networking reception.
The K-12 educator track features educational sessions with 5.5 STEM clock hours and ready-made lessons.
The business/government leaders track features a diverse panel of speakers with insights on Washington’s economy, the anti-work movement, education policy, and workforce issues.

Hosted by Western Washington University, the Washington Council for Economic and Financial Education, and the Financial Education Public-Private Partnership, this one-day event will explore the impact of economics and personal finance education on Washington's economy.

Congratulations to Meilani Wilson for receiving the Presidential Scholar Award!

Each year, WWU honors the high achievements of our graduating students through the Presidential Scholar Awards. During Western's Centennial in 2000, President Karen W. Morse instituted the Presidential Scholars Award to honor graduates for their exceptional scholarship and service to the university and community.

These awards are presented annually just prior to Western’s June commencement ceremonies.

Congratulations to our student, Shatha Abbas, for winning the Student Civic Leadership Award for 2024 for Western Washington University!

The Student Civic Leadership Award recognizes civically engaged and passionate students who are dedicated to making a difference on their campuses and in their communities. Washington Campus Coalition member campuses (which WWU is a member) select two students to receive this recognition for their institution, and the two winners from member campuses are then advanced for consideration for the Governor’s Student Civic Leadership Award.

Congratulations to our Dean, Kevin Roxas, for his Washington State Governor's appointment to the state's Professional Educator Standards Board, the independent agency responsible for overseeing the state's educator workforce. The 12-member board also serves as an advisory body to the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

"The PESB ensures every student in Washington is supported by well-trained, equity-minded professional teachers in their classrooms," said Roxas.

Congratulations again to our Dean for this incredible appointment!
