Remove the wrist rest, embrace good mouse habits!

Let’s be honest, spending hours in front of a computer can take a toll on your body. While we often focus on posture and typing techniques, proper mouse usage is equally important for preventing wrist strain and discomfort.

First things first: ditch the wrist rest. 😦
Believe it or not, those seemingly helpful wrist rests can actually do more harm than good. By constantly resting your wrist on a hard surface, you can restrict blood flow and increase pressure on the nerves in your wrist, potentially leading to carpal tunnel syndrome.

Instead, focus on these key principles:
1️⃣Keep your wrist neutral: Avoid resting your wrist on the desk or the mouse itself. Keep it in a neutral, relaxed position while you work.
2️⃣Maintain a loose grip: Don’t grip the mouse too tightly. A light, relaxed grip is all you need.
3️⃣Move your arm, not your wrist: Instead of moving your wrist to move the mouse, move your entire arm. This helps to reduce strain on your wrist and forearm.
4️⃣Take frequent breaks: Get up and stretch regularly to improve circulation and reduce muscle tension.
5️⃣Investing in an ergonomic mouse can also make a big difference. Look for ones that are designed to fit comfortably in your hand and promote a neutral wrist position.

By incorporating these simple tips into your daily routine, you can reduce the risk of wrist strain and ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable computing experience.

Teach Kids Online Safety

It's common to teach kids the basics of physical safety, like not talking to strangers, looking both ways before crossing the street, wearing a bike helmet and always wearing a seatbelt. But in today’s digital world, it’s just as important to teach them about online safety and privacy.

No matter what your role is in a child's life, we need to lead by example and help our children navigate the internet safely. Here’s how you can start.

The Internet is Forever
One of the most crucial lessons to teach your kids is that what they post online can last a lifetime. Help them understand that even if they delete a post, it might still exist somewhere online.

Think Before You Post
Encourage kids to think about who might see their posts and how those posts might be perceived in the future. Teach them to consider the potential long-term impact of their online actions.

Privacy Settings are Their Friend
Show your kids how to use privacy settings on social media platforms. These settings can help control who sees their posts and personal information.

Be Selective with Friends
It’s important for kids to understand that not everyone online is who they say they are. Teach them to be selective about who they accept as friends or followers. Encourage them to only connect with people they know in real life.

Avoid Sharing Personal Information
Remind your children never to share personal information online, such as their home address, phone number, or school name.
