Our second speaker is Dr. Janis Velasquez Farmer, Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the Bellingham Public Schools. In this speaker event, Dr. Velasquez Farmer will discuss how Asian Pacific American Women (APAW) leading racial equity and inclusion work in predominantly white institutions experience racialized and gendered microaggressions that originate in the Model Minority Myth. Dr. Velasquez Farmer will facilitate a conversation to explore a new conceptual framework, Model Minority Microaggression Battle Fatigue (3MBF), to intentionally complicate contemporary belief systems about racial equity and inclusion initiatives in higher education. Light refreshments will be provided by the Community Consortium for Cultural Recognitions.
