We spent the weekend at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway, where our MM390 Professional Development class got a true taste of Nitro.

A huge thank you to Greg Walter and the entire crew at Charlotte Motor Speedway for making our students feel so welcome throughout the weekend.

It was another fantastic experiential learning and networking opportunity for our Belmont Abbey College Motorsport Management students.

One of the best parts of these trips is exposing students to just how broad the motorsports industry really is. Founders’ Day at Belmont Abbey College is here. This is the biggest fundraiser for our Motorsport Management program.

Where does the money go? Straight to student experiences and networking opportunities.

These experiences are what make this program.

Trips to the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, PRI, and the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals are not extras. They are the difference between sitting in a classroom and actually understanding how this industry works.

Students get to see it, be around it, and start building the relationships that lead to careers.

That only happens because of support.

To those in the motorsports industry, you know what it takes to break in. Your support helps create that path.

To our alumni, you have lived this program. I am asking you to give back so the students behind you have the same opportunities.

This is what makes the program. This is what gives our students a real shot in this industry.

The Belmont Abbey College sim racing team made eNASCAR College Series history on Wednesday, March 18th, with a team of six drivers all representing Ram Trucks, who joined iRacing last week. This is the first time in the history of the eNASCAR College iRacing Series that a single school has run one manufacturer across the board during a campaign.

Both Group 3 qualifiers, Jalen Atkins and Jake Innes, delivered strong performances in the Group 3 feature race, with Atkins finishing 5th and Innes finishing 12th, both advancing to Week 2 of the tournament. Atkins' 5th place finish represents RAM’s FIRST top 5 and top 10 performance in an eNASCAR College Series feature race. Atkins and Innes were the only Ram Trucks drivers to advance to Week 2.

Belmont Abbey College qualified a total of six drivers for Week 1 of the Old Dominion Classic at Martinsville Speedway: Jalen Atkins, Jake Innes, Kody Johnson, Jacob Martin, Jeramiyah Taylor, and Tom Appleton.

Tune in on Wednesday, March 25th at 7pm EST to support our drivers in the final rounds of the tournament!

We had a fantastic guest speaker join our MM200 Intro to Motorsports class this morning.

Gina Schild, Assistant General Manager at Hickory Motor Speedway, spent time with our students sharing her lifelong experiences in the sport and her current role in helping keep one of the country’s oldest short tracks thriving. Hickory has operated for more than 70 years and has seen many of the sport’s greats compete on its historic surface.

Gina did a great job explaining what it takes to operate a weekly facility while also hosting touring series throughout the year. She also offered valuable opportunities for our students to come out, shadow, and work events to gain real hands-on experience at the track.

Thank you, Gina, for investing your time and giving back to the next generation of motorsport professionals.

Day 3 at the Rolex 24 and a strong way to wrap up the week.

Race day gave our students a chance to see how a globally recognized event actually comes together behind the scenes. We were fortunate to meet with so many people even on one of the busiest days of the weekend and to watch how planning, coordination, and ex*****on all intersect in real time.

We spent time learning how the pre-race driver introductions are built, operated, and then disappear almost as quickly as they arrive. We also saw how more than 14,000 tires are managed and utilized throughout a 24-hour race and what it takes to keep that operation running smoothly. Seeing these moving parts up close really drives home how much work goes into an event of this scale.

We truly appreciate everyone who shared their time, experience, and insights with our students on race day. It makes a lasting impression and helps them better understand the many paths available in this industry.

Our Belmont Abbey College Motorsport Management students had the opportunity to meet with:

James Wenz, Dir of Live Shows, Wasserman Live
Scott Taylor, VP of Experiential and Motorsport Marketing, Jackson Marketing
Meagan Thompson, Account Director and Social Media Lead, Campbell Marketing & Communications
Tom Moore, VP of Communications, Campbell Marketing & Communications
Kevin Baltazar, Ford Racing
Karen Nowakowski, WIMNA Shero Award winner, IMSA Field Investigator and Fire Science and Emergency Management instructor
John Doonan, President of IMSA

A fun surprise along the way was a brief conversation with Jenson Button, 2009 Formula 1 World Champion, a reminder that you never quite know who you will run into on trips like this.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this an outstanding experience for our students and for investing in the next generation of motorsports professionals.
Until next time. See you at the in 2027.

Day 2 at the Rolex 24 was outstanding.

It was a full day of meetings that highlighted just how broad and dynamic the motorsports industry truly is. One of the most meaningful parts of the day was the time our all-female group of undergraduate students spent with professional women working across the sport.

We deeply appreciate the women who took time to speak with our students and share their experiences, perspectives, and honest advice. Seeing firsthand what women in motorsports looks like today, in roles spanning competition, marketing, communications, operations, and leadership, provided powerful examples for our young ladies as they begin carving out their own paths in the industry.

Thank you for the insight, encouragement, and direction you offered.

It was also great to have alumni Ian Moye ’12 and Chase Hanchar ’24 with us, continuing to show our students what is possible through the Belmont Abbey College Motorsport Management program.

Throughout the day, our students had the opportunity to meet with and learn from:

Chase Hanchar ’24 and Tamara Johnstone, Pfaff Motorsports
Rebecca Decker and Thomas Decker, United Race Parts
Kelly Brouillet, KBru Communications / AO Racing
Anna Lenzi, Team Manager, Risi Competizione
Max Rosier, Senior Manager, Partnership Marketing, IMSA
Jill Bosang, Senior Manager, Administration, IMSA
Connor Zilisch, Cadillac Racing
Ian C. Moye ’12, Communications and Content Specialist, Team Penske

We are back at the Rolex 24, and what a great first day to kick things off.
A huge thank you to John Doonan for hosting us once again and to Barbara J. Burns for her incredible help connecting us with some outstanding women in motorsports.

We were especially excited this year to bring five female undergraduate students down to Daytona and give them a firsthand look at what a world-class organization IMSA - International Motor Sports Association truly is. We also had several of our graduate students join us for meetings throughout the day.

We started things off with a fantastic tour of the MOTORSPORTS HALL OF FAME OF AMERICA, hosted by Daren Lucas, the new President of the Hall.

Throughout the day, our students had the opportunity to meet with and learn from some fantastic industry professionals:

Holly Cain, Author & Journalist
Stephanie Harris, NASCAR Track Communications
Emily Nash, Director of Track Marketing and Promotions, IMSA
Bozi Tatarevic, Vasser Sullivan Racing
Justin Whapham, Content Creator and Senior Manager at Golin
Mark Raffauf, Senior Director of Competition, IMSA
Fallon Tucker, Race Control, IMSA

An outstanding first day filled with great conversations and learning opportunities. Stay tuned for Day 2.

We were glad to once again support Alexis Paddock ’21 and the team at RTR Vehicles during their championship celebrations for James Deane, now the record-holding five-time Formula Drift champion. Back-to-back titles are never easy, and earning a third championship in a row is an incredible accomplishment for RTR.

The weather made for a challenging day, but our Belmont Abbey College Motorsport Management students stepped up and did a great job assisting with registration, parking, and staging duties throughout the event.

Proud of our students for representing the program well, and congratulations to RTR on another outstanding championship run.

While we were at PRI, one of our students had an especially busy schedule. Jacob Martin applied for and was accepted into the PRI SIM Racing Arena Powered by SRO, competing on Thursday and Friday against some outstanding talent.

Jacob was one of just 17 competitors selected to race live in the SIM Racing Arena, a great recognition in itself. He learned a lot from the experience and will take those lessons with him moving forward, but it was fantastic to see one of our own competing on a big stage and representing the Belmont Abbey College Motorsport Management program so well.

The SIM Racing Arena continues to bridge the gap between virtual and real-world competition, and opportunities like this show how simulation technology is shaping the future of motorsports. Credit to SRO America and Performance Racing Industry for creating a platform that recognizes emerging talent and provides meaningful exposure.

Proud of you, Jacob. Well done.
