Join Bemidji State University School of Music faculty Cory Renbarger and Stephen Carlson for Leaving War, Finding Love, a powerful recital exploring the emotional distance between conflict and connection.

The program begins with works that confront the human cost of war, including Ned Rorem’s War Scenes, drawn from Walt Whitman’s Civil War writings, and Stephen Mark Kohn’s The War Prayer, adapted from Mark Twain’s impassioned anti-war essay.
From there, the evening moves toward love, longing, beauty, and ultimately hope through Russian romances, French mélodies, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Youth and Love. The final work looks toward the open road and the promise of peace, love, and emotional freedom.
