Another lovely post on the Bach family by Eberhard Spree

There were frequent changes in the usage of the rooms in the Bach family apartment, with rooms becoming free and then reallocated. To give a few examples: Friedelena Margaretha Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach’s sister-in-law, died on the 28th of July 1727. She received the Eucharist several days befor...

Excited to welcome Martha Goldsworthy Arnold Fellow Jennifer Lohmann to the RBI! She is working on a piano pedagogy project for her master's degree and is diving into the obscure piano music of the 18th and 19th centuries in our Frederick Freedman collection. An amazing Bach Festival. Special kudos to Abigail G. Guinigundo, our RBI Gott Scholar this year, who did a fabulous job with the RBI's rare 1568 partbooks. It was truly magical to hear Abby's transcriptions come to life with Ampersand.

Can't wait for Bach Fest! Make sure that you don't miss our featured speaker this year, Dr. Peter Bouteneff. He will be helping us understand the music of Arvo Pärt on Saturday, April 18, at 12:15 pm in the Lindsay Crossman Chapel. This will flow right into some organ preluding by our students, followed by an amazing concert of works by Pärt and others at 2pm in the same location. Dr. Bouteneff is a music scholar, theologian, and world renowned Arvo Pärt expert!

Read a recent review by BACH Journal editor Christina Fuhrmann:

Despite Bach's overwhelming presence in our musical lives, a lot of influential scholarship remains inaccessible to a broader public because it is in German. A recent book (and searchable website) has bridged this gap with translations of over 50 lectures by prominent Bach expert Hans-Joachim Schulz...
