The Hispanic Outreach Project (HOP), part of the Center for Excellence in Learning Through Service (CELTS) is pleased to announce that they have set up an altar and ofrenda for Day of the Dead (Dia de los Mu***os) in 2026. The altar will be up from October 23rd to November 2.

Love talking about your favorite books, movies, games, or music, but hate rigid reading lists? Join us for Yap Club - a low-pressure media share where you can talk about whatever you’re currently enjoying. No assigned reading, zero pressure, no formal presentations!

This Month’s Theme: Spooky Season (thrillers, horror, general uneasiness)
When: October 27th, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Where: Hutchins Room 104 (downstairs)

How it works: Bring 1+ piece of media you love that fits the theme (book, movie, album, video game, board game- grab one from Hutchins if you need to!), pitch why you like it, and walk away with a fresh list of recs from fellow students.

A huge thank-you to our students, volunteers, and catering staff who braved Wednesday’s weather to make our first-ever Waffle Wednesday a success! 🧇 Together, we kicked off Reading Period by serving waffles to 140 students!

A special shout-out to our Provost and Associate Provost, who traded their usual roles for aprons and joined the waffle-serving crew! Thank you, Dr. Howard-Baptiste and Dr. Garrett, for rolling up your sleeves and helping make this event so much fun. We’re grateful to have administrators who are willing to jump in and serve - literally!

From Campus Trees to Crafted Bowls 🪵✨

Stop by the Reference Desk to check out our Tree Week exhibit featuring the incredible craftsmanship of local woodworker David Cooke!

David transforms trees felled right here on campus into stunning, hand-carved wooden bowls. While you're here, you can watch a behind-the-scenes video following his complete process - from the initial cut to the final, polished bowl (thank you, Berea Marketing!).
