아프리카 수단의 소년병사에서 유니세프의 아동보호 대변인이 된 기적 같은 이야기.

앤드류스대학교 동문 Abraham Kur의 이야기입니다.

Yesterday, we shared some pictures of some students in our International Development Program in South Sudan.

During today's board meeting, Dr Arthur shared the story of one of those graduates...who after bring a boy soldier and fleeing the country...to return to find many of his family killed. He came to study in our Andrews program, and after his graduation two years ago, he is now working as a United Nations Child Protection Advocate.

"We exist to change lives," says Dr Arthur, "one student at a time."

국제개발 클럽에서 영화제를 준비했습니다.

오늘 그 첫 번째 시간으로 "One Day on Earth" 라는 다큐멘터리를 상영하는데요.

2010년 10월 10일 하루동안 전세계 모든 나라에서 일어나는 일들 그리고 사람들을 찍은 작품입니다.

세계의 모든 나라와 문화 사이의 차이와 같음을 보는 것도 참 의미있는 일이지만 무엇보다도 내가 사는 이 지구와 함께 이 곳을 살아가는 사람들에 대한 좀 더 넓고 객관적인 안목을 가질 수 있도록 해준것 같습니다.

오늘 저는 아메리칸 문화 속에서 도너츠를 앞에두고 작품을 감상하게 되었네요 :)

작년까지 함께 공부했던 국제개발학과 졸업생 (Ellen Dickerson)이 ADRA Madagascar에 Project Manager로 일하게 되었습니다.

재학 중에 인턴쉽의 일부로 방문했던 Madagascar에서의 좋았던 추억들이 그 곳에서 일하고자 하는 결정을 내리는데 도움을 주었다고 합니다.

특별히 ADRA의 Mission이 너무 마음에 들어서 ADRA를 위해 일하게 된 것에 대해 매우 만족한다는 이야기도 남겼습니다.

많은 사람들에게 기쁨과 희망을 줄 수 있는 국제개발의 전문가가 되길 바래봅니다.

새로운 학기를 시작하기에 앞서 앤드류스대학이 위치한 미시간 남서지역에는 폭설이 내렸습니다. 학기 시작일도 이틀이나 늦춰졌네요. 새학기의 시작 치고는 매우 다이나믹한 시작이네요.!

It is a most blustery, terrible, no-good weather day here in Southwest Michigan (see some recent evidence in one of the pictures we just received from Dale Hodges, director of Campus Safety, who is on campus and at work with colleagues this morning).

As you've seen elsewhere, the beginning of this semester's classes has been postponed until Wednesday, January 8, and registration for new students will occur tomorrow, Tuesday January 7, between noon and 5 pm.

Along with the pictures he sent along, Dale reports that about a third of our residential students *are* here and safe on campus—and we are indeed profoundly grateful for residential hall, dining services, campus safety, physical plant and other essential staff who have braved today's weather to help keep these students safe and warm on campus as today's storm continues.

Dale also shares that local transportation also appears to be currently effected, with the Amtrak station closed and many flights into South Bend are currently being cancelled (with O'Hare, roughly 60 percent of today's flights have been cancelled, and 15 percent of Midway's have been cancelled).

Finally, our friend Dale Hodges notes that Berrien Springs police report that many roads are currently impassable with two-wheel drive vehicles and police encourage drivers with those cars to remain at home currently.

So, wherever you are today...and especially if you're close to our Berrien Springs campus...stay inside, warm and safe —and once more, thanks to Dale and others who are on campus in this weather and who are helping make safety, warmth (and housing and food!) possible for our students who are on the Berrien Springs campus today.
