Congrats Dana!
It is our great pleasure to introduce and warmly welcome Mrs. Dana Villarroel as the new Band and Handbells (Resound) Instructor and Director for Ruth Murdoch Elementary School and Andrews Academy.
As educational leaders, we recognize the significant role that music plays in the development of our students. Music cultivates discipline, creativity, teamwork, excellence, and spiritual growth. Therefore, we are especially grateful that God has led a highly qualified and experienced educator to join our school communities.
Mrs. Villarroel is a native of Mexico and earned her undergraduate degree in Music Education from Universidad de Montemorelos. She also holds a Master of Music degree with a specialization in Instrumental Conducting from Andrews University. Her professional preparation is complemented by a North American Division Office of Education Professional Certificate with Music Endorsement and, this month, she will receive the distinguished Commissioned Ministry of Teaching Credential, recognizing her dedication to Christian education and ministry.
With 16 years of experience in K-12 music education, Mrs. Villarroel brings extensive expertise in directing band, choir, and handbell programs. Most recently, she served as the K-12 Music Teacher and Director of the Band, Handbells, and Choir programs at Union Springs Academy in New York.
Her musical abilities are broad and impressive. She is qualified to conduct bands at the K-12 and collegiate levels and direct handbell ensembles across all grade levels. In addition, she provides instruction in numerous instruments, including piano, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, percussion, and others. Her bilingual fluency in English and Spanish further strengthens her ability to connect with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
Beyond her musical talents, what stood out most during the selection process was Mrs. Villarroel’s commitment to Christian education and student development. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, organizational skills, and a passion for mentoring young people. She has organized conference-wide music festivals, supervised music tours, and participated in missionary service in both India and Africa.
As principals, we were particularly impressed by Mrs. Villarroel’s philosophy of Christian education and student development. She believes that every student should feel welcomed, valued, challenged, and supported in a nurturing learning environment. Her vision extends beyond musical achievement; she is committed to helping students develop their God-given talents while deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ. Through music, mentorship, and meaningful relationships, she seeks to inspire young people to embrace Adventist values and become positive influences in their homes, churches, schools, and communities.
We are equally excited about the partnership she desires to build with parents and families. She understands that meaningful collaboration between home and school is essential to student success and looks forward to working closely with our families throughout the school year.
On a personal note, Mrs. Villarroel enjoys hiking, traveling, playing basketball, and spending time with her husband and children. These experiences enrich her understanding of family life and help her connect authentically with the students she serves.
As we begin this new chapter for our music programs, we are confident that Mrs. Villarroel’s experience, enthusiasm, faith, and leadership will inspire our students to pursue excellence, develop their talents for God’s glory, and experience the joy of making music together.
