The Story of Gus Sandonas's Jacket ('77 #1078)

Synopsis from Bud Long '77 #1088:

I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was at my best friend's house in Steubenville. A mutual friend was also there who just happens to be the athletic historian for Big Red. He had come across Gus's jacket on eBay and showed it to me. I told him it looked legit. I sent the link to Gus's brother, John. He confirmed that it was Gus's jacket.

I shared the link with the brothers. Several brothers offered to bid on it. Recon (Doug Stein '78 #1091) said to hell with that and just simply bought it from the seller. Once Recon got the jacket he drove to MD and hand delivered it to Mary, Gus's widow, and Gus's daughter, Alexia.

A friend of a friend of mine in Steubenville showed this to me (link to EBay) last night. I shared it with John Sandonas, Gus's brother. He verified that it was, in fact, Gus's jacket. I then shared it with Mary, Gus's widow. She was excited to see it and has bid on it. The question that we have is how did some random guy in Wheeling end up with Gus's jacket?

Recon and I are en route to make sure Mary gets the jacket. One way or the other.

Good news Brothers! Recon has secured Gus's jacket! It will be shipped to Mary post haste. She is over the moon and can't express how much she loves and appreciates us as Beta Brothers.

Let's just say we got it done.

I’ll be delivering this to Gus’ widow Mary in a few days.

Recon, make sure you get photos when you deliver the jacket.

I just received this from Mary. She expresses herself better than I can.

Hey Bud! You guys rock big time!!! I really don’t know how to express my love and gratitude… not just for the jacket… but for the deep love and appreciation that each of you Betas have for Gussie… and because of that… by extension to myself and Alexia.
