Lehigh Women Engineers

Lehigh Women Engineers LWE is a program encouraging incoming female freshmen navigating the transition from high school to the rigor of undergrad engineering studies

Lehigh Women Engineers (LWE) is a program that encourages talented young women as they navigate the challenging transition from high school to the academic rigor of undergraduate engineering studies. Through a series of events, the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science is working to instill a strong sense of community among our women engineers, whatever their chosen majors. Target

ed primarily at undergraduates, but open to all women in engineering at Lehigh, these events support the success of Lehigh's growing cadre of women engineers as they take on leadership roles in the classroom and the workplace. LWE is supported by the Dean's Office of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science.

What a wonderful day to conclude our time together with the LWE preLUsion program. Great memories were made today as participants went to labs in the AIR robotics lab, met with women engineering faculty members, challenged one another in a ropes course and then shared laughs and memories with our "That's a Wrap" dinner.

What an amazing group of young engineers!!!! Thank you for letting us be a part of your first memories here at Lehigh. Best of luck as you start your adventure!!

A great second day with the Lehigh Women Engineers!

Participants visited THE ATLSS center today and testing their skills with structural engineering. They also participated in a mechanical engineering lab with Prof. Dailey.

A special shout out to our Deans who joined us for a lunch luau. Thank you for talking with is and answering our questions.

We finished our night together with dinner and our craft night- making succulent terrariums.

Mentoring is such an important role in the life of a woman engineer! Tune in to episode 19 of Lehigh GO Getters as one of our own, Allison Codi '22, shares how mentoring has shaped her time at Lehigh starting with her time in LWE PreLUsion program and growing into her role as the SWE CHOICES Co-Chair and mentoring middle school girls.

Congratulations on graduating Allison - we are so proud of all you have accomplished over your 4 years here at Lehigh!!

Allison Codi '22, a major in IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Sciences), knows and loves the space where computer science, engineering, and health converge. In this episode, Codi talks with host Joe Buck about her research in COVID-19 forecasting, her love of frisbee (and hatred of....

Our Fall event - Dress like LaMarr, Interview like Clarke is quickly approaching! All 2020 and 2021 LWE participants and mentors are invited to attend!

Did you know that actress Hedy LaMarr was not only famous for her Oscar nominated films, but she also ran experiments in between shoots! LaMarr worked on radio communications and other wartime inventions that she was never fully recognized for.

Edith Clarke was a pioneer in the world of engineering. During WWI she lead a group of women doing calculations for Transmission and Protection Engineering Department. IN 1919 she became the first woman to receive a degree in electrical engineering form MIT. Clarke also received a patent for creating a graphical calculator that solved electric power transmission line problems. She also became the first woman to deliver a paper for the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and become a engineering professor in the United States!

Channel your inner LaMarr and Clarke as you prepare to take your engineering prep to the next level at this professional development event! Check your emails or reach out to Chayah Wilbers for more details!

What a week! our 2021 Lehigh Women Engineering PreLUsion program wrapped up last week, and we had a blast together.

This year 21 incoming engineering first year students joined 7 of our mentors for 3 days of bonding, collaboration, labs, panels, and socials.

The bonds that these young engineers created will last them not only through this academic year, but the rest of their lives. It was a great week together.

Welcome to Lehigh LWE 2021 and good luck as you start your first week of classes!

As Professor Bill Best would say- Engineering isn't about stepping outside the box, it's about crushing the box! Our LWE PreLUsion participants definitely crushed the box by stepping outside their comfort zone when creating these beautiful works of art! Participants painted along with the guidance of local artist Twila Herot as a fun, social part of our program. It was a great way to end day two. Stay tuned for more photos from this week!
