At Lehigh, we are constantly working to move innovative research beyond the lab and into the world.

Through the Research Translation AcceLUrator (RTA), supported in part by the National Science Foundation (NSF)'s Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program, Lehigh is strengthening the connections between academic discovery and real-world impact.

By providing coaching and mentorship, education and training, and access to expert support, the RTA is helping researchers move promising innovations beyond the lab. More than advancing individual projects, this work is building a university-wide culture of research translation, bringing together faculty, students and partners across disciplines while preparing the next generation of lifelong innovators.

It takes more than innovative ideas to create lasting impact. It takes a community committed to bringing them to life.

🎥 Watch our video highlighting RTA to hear from the researchers, university leaders and partners driving this work and discover how Lehigh is translating research into meaningful societal impact.

Stability breeds success.

Amid a head coaching vacancy, Lehigh football was able to keep much of the staff together, promoting staff members including former defensive coordinator Rich Nagy to Vandergrift Family Head Football Coach. Much of the staff has known each other for years, even before Nagy arrived at Lehigh three seasons ago, and they were aligned on how the program should be run. That shared vision now continues.

“I couldnʼt have scripted a better situation,ˮ Nagy said.

The future is beginning to take shape on South Mountain. Lehigh President Joseph J. Helble ‘82 was joined by Board Chair James R. Maida ‘85 P’17 P’19, Trustees Paul A. Camuti ‘83 and Eric A. Clement ‘99, Provost Nathan Urban and other university leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking for the East Hill Residence Halls.

The project will add capacity for 371 students in four halls nestled on the mountain within an ecologically restored landscape. All Lehigh students will also benefit from improved pedestrian walkways along surrounding roads and new shared outdoor amenities on the site.

East Hill will welcome its first class of Mountain Hawks in fall of 2028.

How do we capture a moment in time? What can images tell us about memory and perception?

First year students in the “What is Reality?” class created cyanotype images after learning about the history of photography and the science of human memory.

Working with this camera-less form of photography shows the intersection of art and psychology and enriches our understanding of reality, showing that both memory and images are unique constructions of our experiences.

This course is one of several first-year seminars in the College of Arts and Sciences focused on Big Questions, an initiative that supports enhanced interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research at Lehigh.

“[Exploration] is what makes us human, curiosity, wondering why things are the way they are,” said Terry Hart ’68 H’88 Pʼ27, former NASA astronaut, teaching full professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics and founder of Lehigh’s master’s in aerospace engineering program.

When NASA launched Artemis II, the first lunar flyby in 50 years, Lehigh alumni were behind the controls and in leadership roles making history happen.

Swipe through to meet Mark Riddle ’87, operations engineer supporting NASA's Kennedy Space Center, and Christina Mancinelli ’03 ’04, vice president of global communications and navigation at Lockheed Martin. See how their journeys from South Mountain led them to the frontiers of human space exploration.

Space Fest at Lehigh brought together campus innovators, faculty and industry enthusiasts. This showcase of space exploration, aerospace technology and cutting-edge research showed curious space cadets (and seasoned pros) what’s happening right here on South Mountain. 🚀

Events like this highlight the power of interdisciplinary studies and celebrate the incredible work our students and researchers are doing to advance progress in the field of aerospace. Thank you to everyone who made it a soaring success!

Ajani Banton ’29 is poised to make an impact during his debut season on Lehigh’s Men's Soccer team. Banton has represented Jamaica and Barbados on the pitch on the U17 Jamaican National Team and the Barbados U17 and U20 National Teams. A three-time prep school champion, Banton matriculated to Barbados’ senior men’s national team and scored his first goal in his second game at that level in March.

The ’80s and ’90s were special decades at Lehigh, and for so many of you. Current students still enjoy edge-of-your-seat games at Stabler Arena, bed races during rivalry week and a robust arts scene.
