Ferris State University - Doctorate in Community College Leadership

The Ferris doctor of education (Ed.D.) program was created for leaders of mission-driven, 21st-century community colleges.

Courses are taught by experienced college leaders, including current and recent community college presidents, vice presidents, and deans. This program is designed to prepare leaders for the changing environments in education. This inquiry-based, problem-solving, action-oriented approach is designed to develop the essential skills that will lead to success, regardless of the level from which gradua

tes will lead. Topics include finance, technology, resource development, marketing, teaching and learning, policy, and leadership. A key feature of the program is that the dissertation may take any of four forms and is integrated throughout the three-year program, with a goal of having individuals complete the dissertation by the end of the three years of the program.

There's no better way to start the Fall semester than with exciting news from our DCCL student, Kevin D'Alessandro, Cohort 15. His research highlights the need for faculty to recreate the connection of the in-person classroom in a digital space. Kevin's article, "A Sense of Belonging: Asynchronous Learning with a Human Face" has been published through NISOD's Innovation Abstracts!

Her work, entitled "Bridging the Gap: Institutional Support Systems for Allied Health Professionals Transitioning from Clinical Practice to Academia," was supported by her committee, Drs. Jasmine Dean, Maria McCormick, and Sherri Donovan !

Another exciting DCCL event took place this sunny summer afternoon! Jim Livesey (Texas Cohort 2) successfully defended his dissertation. His work, entitled "From Access to Completion: A Performance-Funded Business Plan for Student Technology Equity in a Community College System," was supported by his committee, Drs. Debra Courtright-Nash, Jasmine Dean, and Tracy Labadie.

Her work, entitled "IDEAs Policies in Practice: The Views of Special Education Professionals on the Effectiveness of Transition Planning, Preparing Students with Disabilities for Success After High School," was supported by her committee, Drs. Sandra Balkema, Asha Bell, and Philip Ortiz!
