MSU Extension Coastal Floral

MSU Extension Coastal Floral Coastal Floral is Mississippi State University Extension’s program for floral enthusiasts. Extension.

MSU Coastal Floral is part of the Mississippi State University Extension Service. We offer floral design demonstrations and workshops for amateur and professional florists. Beautiful Things From Mississippi brings to light our state's flowers, foliage and products used in floral design. Master Floral Designer: A terrific, certificate program of floral design theory and practice, this program is o

ne-of-a-kind in U.S. Created for floral consumers, we believe that floral design is best learned in a structured learning environment. MFD is available as a hybrid online program and face-to-face. Floral Enthusiast: These programs are for anyone, no matter what level of ability or practice. We assume the participant has very little experience with the topic. They are open (and great) to those who love flowers, whether for their own home or to give to others, or for those involved in floral design for profit. Professional: These programs are taught for those who are interested in designing flowers for profit. If you are interested in creating floral designs for sale, starting a floral business, or work in/own an established business, these classes will help you to excel in floral design skills and knowledge. Grower: Mississippi has an abundance of plant materials that can be used to make attractive floral designs. Not all of the materials we know and love are available on the cut flower market in other parts of the country. Learn about wild and cultivated, Mississippi-grown, greenery, branches, vines, and so much more, and how they can be used in designs throughout the year. This program is open to anyone who likes naturalistic floral design, made from materials in the landscape.

From blossom to boll! MSU Extension Cotton Specialist Dr. Brian Pieralisi snapped this picture showing the progression cotton goes through as it matures.

You start off with a first square, candlestick, white bloom, purple bloom and then the bolls, ranging from very immature to mature.

Extension is there every step of the way for growers who have questions!
