The mortar and pestle has long been a symbol of the pharmacy profession, representing the art and science of preparing medications to improve lives. While pharmacy has evolved over the years, this timeless icon continues to remind us of the dedication, knowledge, and care pharmacists bring to every patient interaction.

From compounding medications to providing trusted healthcare guidance, pharmacists are helping shape healthier communities every day.

❤️ A little bowl.
💊 A little pestle.
🌟 A whole lot of impact.

Congratulations to our graduates of the Class of 2026!

Dr. Robin Vidal, Director of Experiential Education recently stopped by Bienville Animal Hospital in Ocean Springs, MS to visit first-year pharmacy student Mia Gillich and the incredible staff supporting her rotation, and to offer a very special thank you to Cathy Tanner, Veterinary Technician, for her kindness, dedication, and willingness to teach. Her impact has helped create a welcoming and meaningful learning experience.

Mia, one of our Veterinary Certificate students, is currently completing her IPPE Hospital rotation and gaining hands-on experience in veterinary pharmacy by studying veterinary medications, preparing drug information summaries, participating in compounding, conducting mock inspections, and completing reflective exercises. She is also working on assignments such as drug monographs and quick reference charts, preparing presentations on veterinary drugs and disease states, and developing her communication skills by presenting to staff. Additionally, she is engaging in drug-related problem-solving discussions and receiving cross-training on lab equipment.

Mia is already demonstrating the value that pharmacists can bring to veterinary medicine, and we couldn’t be more proud!

The Office of Experiential Education, along with Dean Dave Weldon, also showed appreciation by bringing a small treat to thank the staff for their partnership and for helping us build opportunities that many may not have thought possible.
