To kickoff Women's History Month, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Rho Xi Chapter, will like to highlight notable Sorors and their accomplishments throughout the month of March.

Today's notable Soror is Soror Violette Anderson. She was the first woman of color to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court. She was born July 16, 1882 in London, England but then moved to the United States with her family. She attended the University of Chicago Law School earning her law degree in 1920 and also attended the Chicago Athenaeum and the Chicago Seminary of Sciences. She not only became the first African-American woman to practice law in the U.S. Supreme Court, but she also practiced law in the U.S. District Court Eastern District, and served as the first female city prosecutor in Chicago.

Soror Violette Anderson was the 8th Grand Basileus of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, a member of the Federation of Colored Women's Club, President of the Friendly Big Sisters' League of Chicago, First Vice-President of the Cook County Bar Association, an Executive Board member of the Chicago Council of Social Agencies, and a member-officer of Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Violette Anderson passed away in 1937 but her life is recognized by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated every year in the month of April as "Violette Anderson Day."

Join the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated - Rho Xi Chapter as we take kids from the Broome County area trick or treating around campus on Wednesday, October 31st, 2012. We will start in front of the Cooper Administration Building at 4pm sharp. Afterwards we will be hosting a mini Halloween party for the kids in UU102 at 5:30pm.
