BEARCHAT! πŸ’š
Good morning! The Education Minor is excited to present another Bearchat Education Expo! This is one of the largest events hosted by the minor and it will take place on February 29th from 6:30-8:30pm in the C4 Multipurpose Room.
This event is open to all students, whether or not you are in the minor, and is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved in education on and off campus. For minor students to receive a Bearchat credit, you don’t have to stay for the entire event but you must get your Bingo card stamped at ALL tables and turn in your card at the end. We hope to see you there! πŸ€πŸΌπŸ’šπŸ“š

This past Saturday, students from the minor attended EdCamp STNY alongside pre-service teachers, current educators, and administrators. Students had the opportunity to make connections and learn more about the education field through participant-driven information sessions! Some sessions included First Year Teacher Tips, Classroom Management, Incorporating a Therapy Dog, The Recruitment Process, and many more! It was a great experience and we hope to see you there next year! πŸ’š

On Monday, November 6th, the Education Minor teamed up with the Binghamton Association of Mixed Students for a discussion on representation in the classroom! Participating students learned about teacher representation, the importance of representation in books and textbooks, and why representation matters for education. We had an open discussion and finished the event with elementary school themed snacks like cosmic brownies. Thank you to everyone who came to the event!

On Tuesday, 10/24, the Education Minor collaborated with the Thurgood Marshall Pre-Law Society on the Culture Wars in Education Bearchat. Pre-law and education students learned about the political division in America, critical race theory, and restrictions on curriculums and legislation, particularly in the state of Florida. After an informational presentation, students participated in an open discussion with guiding questions. This was the second Bearchat in a series of DEI Bearchats launched in Spring 2023. Thank you to everyone who attended the Bearchat!

Last Friday we hosted a Karaoke event at Gigis Playhouse, a non profit that supports individuals with Down Syndrome. We enjoyed some snacks and performances from some of the adult participants. Three of our Education Minor students helped to set up, host, and run the event. We had a blast and we can’t wait for more involvement with such a great organization and great people. Thanks to everyone who came out!
