Meet Hadeel Alghanim, a PhD in Rehabilitation Science candidate from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As an occupational therapist and upper extremity researcher, Hadeel was drawn to UAB by its strong mentorship, collaborative research environment, and opportunities to grow as a scientist.
"Being part of the PhD in Rehabilitation Science program at UAB has been such a meaningful chapter in my academic and professional journey."
Hadeel's research focuses on physical activity, quality of life, and patient-reported outcome measures in individuals undergoing orthopedic and musculoskeletal surgeries. Through the program, she has collaborated with clinicians and researchers, presented her work at conferences, and developed the skills needed to make meaningful contributions to rehabilitation science.
"What stands out most to me about UAB is the support I have received from faculty, mentors, peers, and the broader academic community."
She also credits UAB's research workshops, competitions, and presentation opportunities with helping her gain confidence and grow as a researcher.
Her advice for prospective students?
"Stay flexible and curious, be open to mentorship, and trust the process. A PhD journey is not always easy, but with the right support and purpose, it can be incredibly rewarding."
