"I carry this history within my own family. My grandparents, my father, and myself went through assimilative schooling...That legacy still lives within us. And we can reclaim that."

In observance of Orange Shirt Day, BSC welcomed Prairie Rose Seminole to share a lecture titled, " Reclaiming History, Reclaiming the Future: The Bismarck Indian School Archive and Indigenous Educational Leadership."

Seminole, a street historian, documentarian and cultural preservation advocate, explored the deep and lasting trauma of Indian boarding schools, and how her work to digitize and preserve the documents and photos from these schools allows those still living with their effects to reclaim their heritage and discover previously unknown, powerful instances of cultural resilience.

BSC considers it not just a pleasure, but a responsibility to use our standing as a public institution to host and amplify the important work of advocates like Prairies Rose Seminole. From the whole of the campus community, we sincerely thank her for her presentation, and wish her luck on her continued work!

Leadership matters most when the stakes are high.

Last week, Bismarck State College was honored to welcome Admiral Stuart Munsch, former Commander of U.S. Naval Forces, as part of our Distinguished Speaker Series. Admiral Munsch shared insights on “Leading When It Counts,” offering our campus and community a firsthand perspective on leadership, decision-making and rising to the moment when it matters most. The event was held in collaboration with NDSU’s Sheila and Robert Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth.

Thank you, Admiral Munsch, for sharing your experience and insights with !

Congrats to Braxton Perkins and Jeremiah Crosby, winners of a $150 LEGO colosseum set!

When the BSC Substance Prevention Team asked students to build a LEGO model that represents a healthy, balanced and responsible lifestyle, Braxton and Jeremiah delivered big time! Now, after a public vote on social media, their little build has earned them something much bigger!
