Last month, Virginia Tech welcomed prospective students and their families to campus for Open House, and our Finance faculty and students were there to welcome them, answer questions, and share what it’s really like to be part of the Virginia Tech Finance community.

Choosing a college and a major is a big decision. We want prospective students to have the opportunity to talk with the people they may one day learn from, work alongside, and call classmates.

A special thank you to our students who volunteered their time to welcome prospective Hokies and their families. We’re proud of the programs we offer, but even more proud of the people behind them.

Way to go Lizzy!!! Finance is super proud of you and all of your accomplishments.

Research that can make a difference for small businesses is earning international recognition!

Lizzy Bickmore, a Ph.D. candidate in Pamplin’s Finance department, studies how lenders can better manage the risks that come when quality borrowers pay off loans early and how doing so can help more small businesses access credit.

Her paper, “Loan Prepayment, Securitization, and the Expansion of Productive Credit,” recently earned the Best Doctoral Tutorial Award from the European Finance Association!

This summer, Brooke Rasdolsky, a senior majoring in finance, is gaining valuable hands-on experience through her internship with Leidos.

As an FP&A Intern, Brooke is building Power BI dashboards, analyzing large-scale financial data, and leveraging AI tools to transform complex information into actionable business insights. Along the way, she's developing the technical skills and professional experience that will help prepare her for a successful career after graduation.

Experiential learning opportunities like this are a key part of the student experience, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world application while building professional networks and exploring future career paths 🧡

William E. W**e Award
The William E. W**e Award was established in 1957 by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association in memory of William E. W**e, Class of 1904, who was a former rector of the Board of Visitors and Alumni Association president. Following a college-level selection process of candidates nominated by students, faculty, and alumni, each college may put forth one nominee. From this group, three faculty members are selected annually. Each W**e Award winner receives $2,000 and automatic induction into the Academy of Teaching Excellence.
