Last week, first-year landscape architecture students in our Foundations Design Lab completed their first midterm review. The Foundations Design Lab is an immersive, interactive studio focused on inquiry, experimentation, and discovery; it provides an overview of basic design concepts; an opportunity to explore those concepts via the work of making; and practice in the developing a design process.

Congratulations to the first-years on a successful review! We look forward to seeing what the rest of the year brings!

Graduate check in! Katie Webster is a current Landscape Designer at Starr Whitehouse and a '25 graduate from our landscape program. She is passionate about urban space, ecological design, and community engagement. Working as a professional has allowed her to put these passions into practice, way to go!

This past Wednesday our seniors pinned up initial work on their year-long projects! They presented to students and faculty, gaining helpful insights as they continue to their next stages. We can't wait to see how the work develops!

Our students recently visited Charlottesville for a day of learning about the connections between nature, landscape, and human well-being. We met with researchers at UVA to explore biophilic urbanism, Miyawaki forests, human–nature relationships, and Nature Rx, while touring gardens and nature-based projects across the university and Morven Farm.
