Lifelong Learning Institute of Virginia Tech

Lifelong Learning Institute of Virginia Tech The Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) of Virginia Tech provides intellectual, cultural, and social experiences for curious adults 50 and older.

Are you eager to learn something you never knew before? Do you enjoy getting together with others to discuss critical national issues, the latest technological breakthroughs, or what inspires an artist? Do other people's passions about literature, art, science, or history ignite your own curiosity? Or perhaps you want to learn how to may your family tree, write a personal memoir, create a better g

arden, or experience the rich cultural history of the region. You can do all of these things, and more, as a member of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Virginia Tech. There are no prerequisites or eligibility requirements, no tests or grades, just great conversations and new experiences shared with others. The Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) at Virginia tech is a member-driven, volunteer organization that draws on the wealth of academic and community resources in the New River Valley to provide intellectual, cultural, and social experiences for curious adults 50 and older. The LLI enjoys the strong support of Virginia Tech, which provides infrastructure (registration, website development, catalog design, office space, classrooms, current and retired faculty, and start-up funding) for the initiative. But LLI is a member organization, run by volunteers committed to meeting the interests of its members throughout the New River Valley. Join us as a learner, volunteer instructor, class assistant, committee member, special interest group leader, or in many other ways. We will need your help to build a rich and rewarding array of offerings in the years to come!

Lynn Brammer: Leading Light! Lynn Brammer has been recognized by NRV Leading Lights as a Leading Light in Montgomery County.

They write, "Lynn Brammer is a lifelong volunteer whose dedication to community service spans numerous organizations across the New River Valley. She actively contributes to groups such as Volunteer Montgomery, the New River Blues Society, Montgomery/Floyd Friends of the Library, and the League of Women Voters, often serving in leadership roles and supporting marketing and outreach efforts. Lynn plays a key role in promoting events and fundraisers, helping organizations expand their reach and connect with the community. Her passion for social justice, diversity, and community well-being is evident in the causes she supports and the time she gives. Known affectionately as “The Button Lady,” Lynn uses creative ways to raise awareness, wearing buttons that highlight various causes. Through her energy, consistency, and enthusiasm, Lynn inspires others to get involved and support local initiatives. Her lifelong commitment to volunteerism has made a lasting and meaningful impact across the New River Valley."

Lynn serves on the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, VA, where she is Director of Events. She has responsibility for events including our annual meeting and fall orientation.

Here she is at the 2026 Annual Meeting, wearing some of those buttons, between Carolyn Rude and Jes Davis. Congratulations, Lynn!
