Realizing the importance of uniting the new faces of Greek Life, seven Greek organizations came together to create a multicultural council. Established in 2004, under the name United Council of Fraternities and Sororities, it served as the youngest governing council at Virginia Tech. Later changing its name to Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), its intentions were to meet the needs of Virginia Tec
h’s sororities and fraternities with a cultural/ethnic or service based purpose. In Summer 2015, the council returned to it's original name, United Council of Fraternities and Sororities, in order to bring together multicultural, faith based, service based, and special interest fraternities and sororities. Current UCFS Organizations:
- alpha Kappa Delta Phi
- Alpha Omega Epsilon
- Lambda Phi Epsilon
- Lambda Upsilon Lambda
- Sigma Psi Zeta
- Theta Nu Xi
- Triangle
As a council, our main goal is to encourage and foster networking, collaboration and uplift of our member organizations. We do this through collaborative programming, collective volunteering, participating in each other’s events and advocating for our member organizations at the administrative level. The remaining goals of the UCFS are as follows:
• To provide a forum that allows for the free exchange of ideas, programs, and services between its constituent fraternities and sororities;
• To promote the awareness of multicultural diversity within collegiate institutions, their surrounding communities, and the greater community-at-large; and
• To support and promote the works of its member organizations. Our individual members are deeply devoted to the community, holding executive positions in several other student run organizations, fundraising/volunteering for worthy causes, and providing educational programs to keep the community educated and facilitate healthy conversation on local issues. While we may sound overwhelmingly serious, and at times we are, we have a lot of great times together and create bonds that are hard to find elsewhere.
