Join us this Friday, September 4th at 10:30am at the Lyric Theater for a talk by award-winning photographer Gregory Halpern.

Halpern's distinctive style of documentary photography is rooted in both the real and the sublime. Subjects include the fading industry of Rust Belt towns, the sprawl and mythology of Los Angeles, and a total solar eclipse and the strange, shared awe it produces in a crowd of strangers.

A member of Magnum Photos, Halpern has published eight monographs and received a Guggenheim Fellowship; his photographs are held by the Museum of Modern Art, among other major collections. He teaches at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This lecture is generously supported by the School of Architecture and the School of Visual Arts.

This year's graduation exhibition reception at Virginia Tech's Center for the Arts was a huge success! Congratulations to the SOVA class of 2026! Much thanks to the SOVA Gallery Director Kate Skelly and the team at Center for the Arts for helping our students install their art in the Center's Sherry Quillen Gallery. Without Savannah Penven, Exhibitions Program Manager at the Center, this show would not have been the huge success it turned out to be.
