Women's and Gender Studies at Virginia Tech

Women's and Gender Studies at Virginia Tech Our program presents students with new ways of thinking about how race, class, gender, and sexuality

The Women’s and Gender Studies program at Virginia Tech is home to award-winning faculty members who teach courses to over 800 Virginia Tech students each year. We work to showcase feminist scholarship through conferences, lecture series, films, and other formats. "Through Feminist Eyes," our annual lecture series co-sponsored with the VT Women's Center, is held every Fall. In addition, we sponsor

an annual student mini-conference, coming up in March 2016, and a biannual, international conference on Gender, Bodies, and Technology (http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gbt/), which will be held on April 21-23, 2016. Virginia Tech students can major in Women's & Gender Studies with a degree option in Sociology. Many students choose to minor in Women's & Gender Studies because our interdisciplinary courses complement so many other majors. We also offer a 9-hour Graduate Certificate--an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural study of gender in social structure, history, culture, and technology. MS and PhD students in Sociology also have the option to concentrate in Women’s and Gender Studies.
