Hokies across campus heard from Kelley Powell Williamson, a Virginia Tech alumna and the founder of Kelley Kouture, a newly launched luxury women’s footwear brand handcrafted in Italy.

She met with students in the School of Design, School of Visual Arts, and Pamplin College of Business to talk through the path from concept to launch, including product development, manufacturing, branding, and merchandising. Her story highlights human-centered design, pairing comfort and craftsmanship, and how entrepreneurial skills move from classroom to market.

During an all-expenses-paid internship in Italy, Franco Cabanas saw how designs move from an idea to production, learned from professionals across an international company, and gained new insights on where his own career could take him.

“Being selected and not knowing entirely what that meant, or what the internship would look like, but knowing it’s an opportunity where I was recognized for my work. Aside from just wanting to go, I felt like I needed to go. For my career and my professional experience, let’s start now.”

Students in our landscape architecture () Construction Documentation Studio welcomed community stakeholders from Wytheville, Virginia (), to Blacksburg for their second review of a project focused on Elizabeth Brown Park.

This review gave students the opportunity to hear directly from members of the Wytheville community and gain valuable feedback on their designs. Students will use this input to continue developing their projects and create designs that better respond to the specific needs, character, and priorities of the community.

Thank you to everyone who traveled to Blacksburg to participate in the review and share your time and expertise with our students. Opportunities like this provide an incredible real-world learning experience and allow our students to engage directly with the communities they are designing for.

Guess which major in the School of Design identifies with these clues👇
• Graduate from a program accredited by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), which qualifies you to sit for the Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer certification exam. The program has produced several winners of the NKBA “30 under 30” program for emerging professionals.
• Showcase your work and gain recognition by entering student design competitions sponsored by NKBA. Virginia Tech’s program has produced first-place winners in this national design competition.
• Complete a required internship that gives you real-world insight and valuable career preparation. Many students receive job offers as a direct result.
• Study with faculty who have written the textbooks, shaped the industry, and have earned induction into the NKBA Hall of Fame.
