The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has come a long way since Virginia Tech's modest beginnings when Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College first opened its doors in 1872. Through its land-grant mission of research, teaching, and extension, the college has been instrumental in helping agriculture and other life science industries make significant strides in improving people's lives.

Today's College is adapting to society's expectations and needs by focusing its resources and efforts on improving human health and nutrition, sustaining agriculture and the environment, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, and developing cures for devastating and debilitating diseases.

Fried blue catfish, co****le, and walking around an aquaculture floor — there’s no other way we’d want to spend a Saturday! 🐟🐠🎟️

Last weekend, the VSAREC celebrated 50 years of service with its first-ever open house, welcoming community members, fellow Hokies, and local leaders to tour the facility and meet Virginia seafood partners. 🤝

It proved to be a day full of laughter, engaging conversation, and of course — fried blue catfish courtesy of ! 🍽

We were so glad to be part of the 100th Virginia FFA State Convention and welcome students, advisors, and supporters from across the Commonwealth. We were especially excited to welcome CALS alumna and Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Katie Frazier, and Governor Abigail Spanberger during Session 4.
