Indiana University has joined forces with the Berlin Institute of Health @ Charité and Arizona State University to create an immersive experience using large-format data visualizations. See how our biological systems work together to maintain health and recover from disease. ❤️‍🩹

🗺️ By combining 3D mapping, disease phenotype data, and decision-support tools, the team is turning complex health data into information that patients and providers can see, understand, and act on.

🥽 What if you could step inside your data instead of just looking at it on a screen?

Join the CEW&T Extended Reality (XR) Team and Dr. Andreas Bueckle for an interactive introduction to immersive analytics and data visualization in XR!

Dr. Bueckle, Research Lead at IU’s Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science Center (CNS), will introduce the Data Visualization Literacy Framework and explore how immersive environments can create new ways to interact with and understand complex information.
You’ll also get to see XR in action! 🥽 During the session, Dr. Bueckle will cast directly from a VR headset to the screen for a live demonstration of data visualization in an immersive environment.

🎨 For centuries, scientists have relied on visual representations to make sense of the world, from anatomical drawings and microscopy images to increasingly complex computational visualizations.

🖥️ Yet most scientific data still ends up on a flat screen.
Extended reality (XR), including virtual and augmented reality (VR, AR), offers new ways of interacting with information.

🫀 Researchers can step inside a dataset, such as the Human Reference Atlas (HRA) and move around structures, manipulate them with their hands, change scale, and explore the same virtual space together.

💡 With Andreas Bueckle, Ph.D., Research Lead at the Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science Center at Indiana University Bloomington, Andreas S. Horchler and I discuss what a metaverse for scientists could look like and what scientists can learn from gamers about virtual spaces

🧬💻 The 5th Human Reference Atlas (HRA) Hackathon is underway!
Today and tomorrow, researchers, programmers, P*s, and key team members come together virtually and in Berlin for two days of collaboration, coding, and building!
Teams from HuBMAP, SenNet, CFDE, KPMP, and the Whole Person Project are joining forces to explore how the Human Reference Atlas (HRA) can connect with and support other human atlassing efforts.

The goal? Turn ideas into action. 🚀
🔹 Tackle focused coding and data projects
🔹 Build MVPs and prototypes
🔹 Strengthen connections across programs
🔹 Advance the future of human atlas research
