On Wednesday next week, the English department will host our annual welcome back event! We will gather in the Center for the Humanities, on the first floor of CLA.

Get ready for an inspiring day of poetry! Join us on Thursday, April 9, for the 2026 Spoon River Poetry Review's Lucia Getsi Poetry Conversation and Reading.

4:00 p.m.: Poetry Conversation, IWU Ames Beckman Auditorium, featuring poet Aaron Coleman in conversation with Professor Joanne Diaz.

6:00 p.m.: Poetry Reading at University Galleries, Uptown Normal, with poets Aaron Coleman and Vasvi Kejriwal.

7:30-9:00 p.m.: Reception and book signing at Medici restaurant, Uptown Normal.

All three events are free and open to all!

*Arthur W. Hinners & Louise Hinners Sipfle Poetry Prize, presented by the Academy of American Poets: submit up to 4-6 poems in a single document, $150 prize.

*Illinois Wesleyan University Department of English Prize for Short Fiction: submit up to 5,000 words of fiction, $150 prize

*Peter J. Theune Memorial Essay Prize: submit up to 5,000 words of creative nonfiction, $150 prize
