Our 2026-27 Bill Blass Speaker Series season kicks off with this talk by luxury fashion designer David Bamber on Wednesday, November 4 at 5:30 in Kirkwood Hall, Room 116. Join us to hear stories from Bamber’s 50 years in the industry. Widely recognized for his decades-long creative relationship with Tom Ford and his prominent role within major global fashion houses, Bamber’s career spans high-profile positions in luxury womenswear, creative direction, film, theater, and education.

The Bill Blass Speaker Series was established in 2002 with a bequest from fashion designer Bill Blass, a native Hoosier and friend of Indiana University.

In 2023, Ben Jurgensen started July Bicycles as a focused formal, technical, and material exploration of the bicycle in its many forms. Our next guest in the Eskenazi School's Design Speaker Series, Jurgensen speaks Monday, October 19 in Radio-TV 139 at 4 pm.

Assistant professor in the Industrial Design department at the Rhode Island School of Design, Jurgensen's current research centers around composite construction, blending traditional craft processes with digital tools to create bicycles that are visually distinct and experientially unique. Jurgensen's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.

Congratulations to the Eskenazi School faculty, staff, students, and alumni just announced as recipients of the City of Bloomington Arts Commission's Artistic Advancement Grants,which go directly to individual artists to cover the costs that can move a project from idea to completion. "These targeted grants give Bloomington's creative entrepreneurs the resources to keep working, reach new audiences, and build sustainable careers and markets for their work," according to the City of Bloomington, press release.

Megan Young, senior lecturer of digital art and digital art area head at the Eskenazi School, has been named inaugural Immersive Environments Lab (IEL) Fellow at the Stuckeman School in the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State. As a fellow, she is
funded to use the IEL as a space for an immersive workshop and/or installation and give a public presentation of her work.

For this project Young will create an interactive archive through storytelling and digital tools. At Penn State, she will invite people to contribute meaningful personal items along with their stories, notes and reflections. These pieces will join a growing digital archive that reveals how objects connect us through shared memories, history and even loss.

An artist whose work highlights the human side of technology, Young's projects have been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Hyperallergic, and NPR. At IU, she serves as faculty champion for IU’s student-driven Extended Reality Team with the IU Center of Excellence for Women & Technology . Her teaching introduces students to creative coding, physical computing and immersive environments while questioning how our use of emerging technologies has the potential to reshape relationships between society, culture and technology.
