BSC Regional Technology Conference

BSC Regional Technology Conference A regional technology conference designed to cultivate innovative blended & online learning techniqu The conference is scheduled over two days.

Welcome to the Regional Technology Conference at Bluefield State College! The Bluefield State College Regional Technology conference first hosted in 1998, was again conducted in 2012 and since then has be planned as a biennial event. Over the last 20 years, our school has grown using technology. Communication and information technologies are resources for teaching and learning that are driving tha

t growth. In the last ten years there has been a surge in technology growth in higher education and Bluefield State College has developed the conference to introduce the software and technologies available to all campus members who are interested in blending technologies in the classroom and/or running an online section of their class. Today’s student is demanding more blended and on-line educational learning. Students are requiring more access to the instructor beyond email and notes. New skills and software technologies adapt to expand and improve educational delivery to students. Breakout session presenters are instrumental for sharing best practices and insights regarding technologies in the blended and online classroom environment. The conference covers selected events that primarily focus on the use of technology in educational settings and on teaching, learning, and educational administration. The development of the digital literacy has been part of that growth as students seek to access information via distance to complete their studies. Library information Literacy seeks to bridge the gap for these students through technological means. The goal is to develop a more informed student population able to incorporate and effectively use information in a fast growing digital society. Blended learning is more than just the insertion of technology in the classroom it is supporting the more diverse student population that is taking advantage of the educational opportunities that are being fostered through technology. How do we improve our integration methods? Bluefield State is poised to assist these newly informed technologically savvy students as they enter the global workforce by gaining cross-cultural skills developed in the classroom and through special programs developed through the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Not because of the transience of technology- but multiple influences delayed getting this year's planned RTC conference to recognize BSC's 125th anniversary. With the strategy for reopening in fall 2020, our hope is to offer a streaming virtual conference in spring 2021
