📖 Bluffton's history began in the 1700s, and for more than 100 years, cooling breezes from the May River made it a desirable place for wealthy planters to build summer homes.

USCB's Sarah Beachkofsky and Trey Ramsey presented history, ecology and census data to participants in their Bluffton Ambassador course today. All the new "ambassadors" went home with local knowledge and a pin!

🔨 Service learning on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota is a combination of hands-on work and cultural education.

Our group of 7 USCB students and 3 Nursing faculty worked on projects that addressed Lakota Nation community needs. They built a wheelchair ramp, constructed and installed outhouses, installed trailer skirting, and weeded a community garden where eggplant, squash, tomatoes and potatoes grew.

💙 This USCB “study away” experience provided insight into rural health disparities, housing challenges, food access, and social determinants of health while fostering cultural appreciation.

The Sand Sharks left with a deeper understanding of Lakota culture, a greater awareness of social and economic challenges on the reservation, and lasting connections.

💪The group was led by Lynne Hutchison, Ana Carol Ptacin and Ashley Shroyer.

🇰🇷USCB students in South Korea have been busy interviewing and speaking with a North Korean defector, an American Exchange Diplomat with the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Director of International Programs at the prestigious Seoul National University of Education, and a two-time Pulitzer winning photojournalist.

THIS is what USCB Study Abroad is all about —the exchange of ideas and knowledge from one cultural perspective to another.

🌱 Learning from local knowledge keepers is one of the most meaningful parts of USCB’s Bahamas study abroad experience.

Our students explored traditional Bahamian medicine — discovering how native plants have been used for generations to heal, nourish, and connect communities to the land. 🌿🇧🇸

Science and culture go hand in hand, and we are grateful to learn from those who know these islands best.

From modern pop culture to centuries-old traditions, the SKALE Study Abroad group is experiencing many sides of South Korea!

USCB students learned how young Koreans spend their free time: with visits to Lotte World Adventure, fast-food favorite Lotteria for shrimp burgers, luxury window shopping at the lavish Lotte Mall, and the interactive animal experience at Zoolung Zoolung.

The group spent time at the Korean National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and attended the spectacular Yeondeunghoe — a UNESCO-recognized celebration of Buddha’s Birthday featuring Seoul’s famous Lantern Parade. The lantern parade is a 1,200 year old tradition of grace and beauty. 🏮
