We at Florida Atlantic University’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice extend our heartfelt thanks to Corporal Kenneth Torrence and the entire Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) team for welcoming members of our School of Criminology and Criminal Justice Summer Camp!

The group gained valuable insights, thanks to interactive demonstrations and firsthand exposure into the diverse and vital roles within law enforcement
Led by Camp Director Sigal Rubin, with support from Instructor Patrick McLaughlin and camp counselors Maddie Coddington and Brook Charles, campers participated in a comprehensive day. The experience included tours of the PBSO Forensic Sciences and Technology Facility, the Main Detention Center, the 911 Communications Center, and specialized units such as the Canine Unit, Mounted Patrol, Aviation Unit, Therapy Dog Program, and more.

We appreciate the leadership of Corporal Torrence and fellow PBSO team members. Their dedication to education, mentorship, and community partnership opportunities inspire the next generation of criminal justice professionals.

There are moments in higher education that remind us why the work matters. This was one of them.

Florida Atlantic University’s College of Social Work and Criminal Justice recently celebrated its inaugural class of graduating Dean’s Leadership Academy Vanguards, honoring the journeys that brought them to the CSWCJ, along with the leadership skills that they’ll carry into the communities they serve.

The Dean’s Leadership Academy transitions leadership from theory to lived experience, pairing academic rigor with real opportunities to mentor others and engage with industry leaders, community partners, and policymakers. Walking alongside this inaugural cohort has meant watching their purposes awaken, their confidence deepen, and their leadership emerge.
