This is the second year that Florida Atlantic has made the largest jump of all public universities in the state.

The university also ranked No. 209 for “Top National Schools” up from No. 262 last year and rose from No. 41 to No. 26 in the “Social Mobility” ranking, which includes both public and private universities. Florida Atlantic remains the most ethnically diverse public institution in the state.

The Criminology and Criminal Justice faculty heard donations were desperately needed at the FAU Beyond Food program for students seeking temporary food assistance.

They began collecting donations, and in just one week, were able to deliver three full boxes of delicious items to the on-campus food pantry. Sharing truly is caring.

“We’re sorry; he simply cannot leave!” That’s what Mary Ann Senatore, volunteer coordinator, had to say about Criminal Justice student Kenneth Tong, who interned this summer at the Office of State Attorney Dave Aronberg. During his 130 internship hours, Kenneth performed case research and prep for mental health cases, impressed his office mates with his punctuality and motivation, received firsthand observation of agency rules and regulations, and completed his assigned tasks in a timely, accurate manner – often staying late to finish his projects.

“He was such a pleasure to have at our office,” Senatore said. “Everyone looked forward to him being here, and he brought so much to the team. We’re sorry; he simply cannot leave! (We haven’t told him yet!).”

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States.

According to the Office of Minority Health - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, racial and ethnic minorities often suffer from poor mental health outcomes due to multiple factors, including lack of access to quality mental health care services, cultural stigma surrounding mental health care, discrimination, and overall lack of awareness about mental health.

FAU Counseling And Psychological Services Center provides students with timely and effective mental health services. Learn More: fau.edu/counseling
