Quantum training in action at Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science ⚛️

Over the past several days, members of our faculty participated in an intensive, hands-on D-Wave training focused on quantum computing, programming applications, and next-generation optimization technologies.

As Florida's first university to publicly host a dedicated on-campus quantum computer, FAU is building foundational infrastructure that expands access to advanced computing technologies for research, education, and workforce development.

The training provided faculty with direct engagement alongside D-Wave experts as they explored real-world applications across AI, robotics, intelligent infrastructure, logistics, energy, and autonomous systems.

Cocoplum Nature School visits the Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering and Computer Science ⚙️

As part of the Chips N Salsa garden data program, 40 K–5 students from Cocoplum Nature School visited the College to explore how the microchip concepts they’ve been learning through gardening and plant sensor projects connect to real-world engineering applications.

Students toured the Fab Lab and assisted in coding a Unitree robot dog—experiencing firsthand how innovation, technology, and engineering come together at scale.

An exciting day of STEM discovery and hands-on learning.

The Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering & Computer Science continues to advance research in autonomous systems, wireless communications, and edge AI through the Center for Connected Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence (CA-AI). 🤖📡

Researchers at the center have received a $2.25 million grant from the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop autonomous systems capable of communicating, learning, and operating collaboratively in contested, dynamic environments.

Led by Dimitris A. Pados, Ph.D., the research focuses on enabling autonomous systems to process information, perform AI inference, and coordinate in real time across wireless networks without relying on cloud-based infrastructure.

The project advances secure networked edge-AI, intelligent wireless systems, and distributed autonomous technologies critical to next-generation autonomous operations.

As autonomous technologies continue to expand their presence across commercial and defense applications, a critical limitation persists. While today’s machines can operate intelligently on their own, they often struggle to collaborate effectively as part of a network. This gap – where systems ar...
