Appalachian State University Interior Design Program

This page is for the four year, professional, CIDA Accredited, Interior Design program at Appalachian State University in beautiful Boone, NC.

Our curriculum provides an educational foundation that prepares students to enter the interior design profession and positions the student to seek professional status through the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam as well as state‐specific licensure. The program combines lecture and studio courses and is balance of theoretical and pragmatic approaches. Environmental re

sponsibility in design is a focus of the program and is woven holistically throughout the curriculum. The program also has a strong history of service-learning and working with non-profit clients. The program is located within the Department of Technology and Environmental Design in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. The program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation [CIDA] and by National Association of Schools of Art and Design [NASAD]. Sometimes you just need a break from studio for a few minutes, and you realize how lucky you are to work/study in the mountains, with a small hiking trail that is thirty feet from your building and puts you in a rhododendron forest in a few minutes. This group has been working SO hard. They needed some restoration! Happy Earth Day from App State Interior Design!

Dear students and program supporters,

Our new Chairperson, Sheryl Oring, has created an exhibition event named Mountain Made for the three programs in our department. We would love if you could attend the opening reception, next Thursday, January 22nd, from 5-7PM in Katherine Harper Hall. It will begin in the main lobby and interior design will be featured in studio 49 and 181. Come see the work displayed.

We got snowed out in December so my students are presenting their projects next Monday. You're all invited. Let me know if you can come. We'd love to have you and they'd love to practice presenting their design solutions for the Thai healthy hotel project. Thanks!
