Melting pot… mixing bowl… we like to think of ourselves as more of a salsa! 🌶️

The tomato is still a tomato. The cilantro is still cilantro. The chile doesn’t have to become less spicy to belong. In fact, the salsa depends on each ingredient bringing its particular character to the whole.

But the ingredients don’t merely sit beside one another. They interact. Each changes the experience of the others, and together they create something that none could create alone.

The magic isn’t sameness. It’s combination.

On Saturday mornings, the Market gives us a bowl to gather in. We bring different histories, traditions, perspectives and ways of being.

We stand in the same lines, listen to the same music, admire the same flowers, eat food grown from the same mountain soil, and talk to people we might never otherwise have had a reason to meet.

We don’t have to become the same to belong to the same community.

Maybe it’s togetherness that is the lime juice - the thing that runs between all those distinct ingredients and somehow makes the whole thing sing. ❤️ 🍋‍🟩

This Saturday, we’ll celebrate that spirit with Día Latino at the Market ~ complete with salsa tasting and salsa dancing!🍅💃🏻

Come bring your own particular flavor to the mix.

The Market is for everyone.

App State faculty in Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment are leading exciting research on biochar — a material that can strengthen High Country soils and reduce the carbon footprint of concrete.

-Dr. Jeremy Ferrell is helping growers rebuild nutrient‑depleted soils through long‑lasting biochar amendments.

-Dr. Sharareh (Sheri) Shirzad and her lab are developing low‑carbon, high‑performance concrete, as well as exploring self‑sensing materials that can monitor structural health in real time.

We are grateful for the faculty, students, and partners pushing sustainable innovation forward in CFAA at App State. Read the full article by Bret Yager on the CFAA news page: https://faa.appstate.edu/news/materials-innovation-points-way-resilient-construction-and-better-soils

♻️The Fall semester Blue Bag Drive is happening NOW! on Sanford Mall and will continue throughout this week.♻️

Blue bags are designed for easy recycling inside residence halls. Students may fill the bag with recycling and then deposit the materials at the closest waste drop off site. Scan the QR code on the bag to locate your drop off site and to find further information about sorting and special recycling.
