Students are diving into marine science with Northeastern University’s Coastal Ocean Science Academy 🌊

Hosted by Northeastern’s Marine Science Center, COSA gives middle and high school students the opportunity to explore coastal ecosystems through hands-on field experiences, including species surveys, water quality testing, and seining.

“Beaches and rocky shores are classrooms, and the concepts teach themselves,” said Sierra Muñoz, outreach program coordinator and lecturer in Northeastern’s Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences.

Congratulations to Assistant Professors Alberto de la Torre and Calina Copos on receiving 2026 NSF CAREER Awards! 🎉

The National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award is one of its most prestigious honors for early-career faculty, recognizing researchers with the potential to serve as academic role models and lead advances in research and education.

Dr. de la Torre’s award supports his project, “Engineering order in frustrated quantum materials via strong light-matter coupling,” and Dr. Copos’ award supports her project, “Learning spatiotemporal dynamics of tissue regrowth at multiple spatial scales.”

Congratulations to both faculty members on this outstanding achievement!
