Congratulations to Maya Bird-Murphy , M.Arch’17 alumna, named a 2026 L’Oreal Woman of Worth!

Maya is the Founder of Mobile Makers, an award-winning nonprofit expanding access to design education through workshops, community engagement, public installations, and pop-ups hosted from retrofitted mail trucks in Chicago and Boston. Her work empowers people to see themselves as agents of change in the spaces they inhabit—and advocates for a more equitable, inclusive built environment.

As one of 10 honorees, Maya will receive a $25,000 grant, mentorship, and national visibility through L’Oréal Paris—well-deserved support for a leader transforming who gets to shape our cities.

Join us on Sunday, November 1, from 12–4 PM at the Hynes Convention Center for a free portfolio review event for prospective art and design students. Join BAC prez Mahesh Daas on GBH’s The Culture Show at the Boston Public Library for a conversation about South Station Tower—one of Boston’s boldest and longest-running experiments in air-rights development.
Built on air rights above a functioning transit hub, the tower opened in 2025 after decades of shifting plans, markets, and leadership. Now, we can ask: What does it mean for a transit station to become a civic place? And what can Boston learn for its next generation of city-building?
The conversation will be live streamed for those tuning in remotely.
