In a new peer-reviewed primer for Pediatric Clinics of North America, Meg Comeau, CISWH senior project director, offers a comprehensive look at health care financing for children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN).

CYSHCN and their families navigate a complex range of costs, and insurance design is key to access to care. Comeau and co-authors examine these challenges and share opportunities to better support children and families.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed many patterns in public health and social supports, including how children sought emergency care and the types of support they needed.

The reach of PEPFAR (the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief launched in 2003) extends beyond HIV care, with impacts across maternal and child health. CISWH researchers found that PEPFAR investments were associated with lower maternal and child mortality and higher childhood immunization rates across low- and middle-income countries.
