The FIFA World Cup was expected to deliver a major boost to the hospitality industry. But does the reality match the hype?

In a recent interview, Associate Teaching Professor Evodio Kaltenecker shares why the economic impact of mega sporting events is often more complicated than projected. 📈

While hotels, restaurants, and local businesses can see short-term gains, higher prices, travel costs, and disruptions may also deter other visitors, leading to mixed results overall.

For Distinguished Professor Kimberly Eddleston, family business isn't just a research focus; it's a lifelong passion shaped by personal experience. Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs and launching her first venture at age nine, she witnessed firsthand both the opportunities and challenges that arise when family and business intersect.

Today, Eddleston is one of the world's leading scholars on family enterprise, helping reshape how business leaders think about succession, governance, entrepreneurship, and family dynamics. In our latest Impact Makers profile, she reflects on the experiences that inspired her research, the lessons she's learned from working with family businesses around the world, and why the most successful enterprises are built on both strategy and heart.

50,000 — and counting? Not so fast. 📈

After the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record 50,000 this month, predictions quickly followed — including a forecast that it could reach 100,000 by 2030.

But D’Amore-McKim experts are urging caution.

David Myers, associate teaching professor and director of the Business Sustainability Initiative, notes that doubling the Dow in four years is historically unlikely. Market volatility, policy uncertainty, and global risk factors all shape what’s possible.

Da Huang, assistant professor of finance, puts the timeline in perspective:
Since 1900, it has taken an average of more than 11 years for the Dow to double. Even over the past decade, a period shaped by rapid technological growth and AI expansion, doubling would have required far more time than the current forecast allows.

There are roughly 740 trading days between now and 2030. While history shows it’s possible to double that quickly, it has often coincided with asset bubbles, and sharp corrections that followed.

Associate Professor Jayanth Narayanan explores how pivotal moments, like presidential elections, can shift our perception of the "ideal leader." 🗳️

His research, spanning eight surveys during the 2020 election, revealed a notable decline in preferences for “masculinity” and “tyranny” in leadership across political affiliations—except among those who questioned the election’s legitimacy.
