⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY AWARENESS: Emerging Synthetic Opioid

Fisher College Police & Public Safety wants our community to be aware of cychlorphine (N-propionitrile chlorphine), an emerging non-fentanyl synthetic opioid that has recently appeared in the illicit drug supply.

Cychlorphine emerged in the United States in late 2025 and has since been identified in a growing number of toxicology and drug-supply samples. Because this substance is relatively new, researchers are still learning about its potency and prevalence. Current evidence indicates that it is a highly potent opioid capable of causing life-threatening respiratory depression and overdose.

Of particular concern, cychlorphine is not detected by fentanyl test strips. It may also be present alongside other opioids, stimulants, or other substances. A negative fentanyl test therefore does not mean an unregulated drug is free of dangerous synthetic opioids.

Know the signs of an opioid overdose: a person who cannot be awakened, slow or stopped breathing, blue/gray or unusually pale lips or skin, or choking, gurgling, or unusual breathing sounds. If you suspect an overdose, call 911 immediately and administer naloxone (Narcan) if available. A documented cychlorphine overdose showed improvement following administration of naloxone.

And a timely reminder for the Fisher community:
Monday at 12:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall there will be a training session on recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer Narcan. Knowing what to look for—and what to do in those critical first minutes—can save a life.

👮‍♀️ National Police Woman Day | September 12 💙

Today, the Fisher College Criminal Justice Club is proud to recognize National Police Woman Day, a day dedicated to honoring the courage, leadership, service, and contributions of women in law enforcement.

Women have helped shape policing at every level while building careers in a profession that has historically been—and continues to be—predominantly male. Today is an opportunity to recognize not only how far women in law enforcement have come, but also the talent, determination, and leadership they bring to the profession every day.

We are especially lucky to have one of those leaders right here at Fisher.

💙 Chief Sherry Belanger, Chief of the Fisher College Police Department and co-advisor to the Criminal Justice Club, is an incredible example of what leadership in law enforcement looks like. She is a mentor, advocate, educator, and role model for our students—and, quite simply, she is awesome at what she does.

Chief Belanger brings real-world experience into the lives of our CJ students, supports their professional goals, and shows our future criminal justice professionals the importance of leading with integrity, compassion, confidence, and strength. We are incredibly grateful that she chooses to share her time and experience with our club and our students.

To all of our alumnae serving in law enforcement and women officers everywhere: thank you for your service, your leadership, and for continuing to pave the way for those who will follow.

Today, the Fisher College Criminal Justice Program joins our community and our nation in remembering the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

We honor the victims and the families whose lives were forever changed. We remember the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, and countless others who responded that day—and those who continued to serve in the difficult days, months, and years that followed.

As a Criminal Justice program, this anniversary also gives us an opportunity to recognize those within our own community who have chosen lives of service.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the for the work they do every day to protect and support our students, faculty, staff, and campus community.

We are equally proud of our Criminal Justice alumni who have gone on to careers in law enforcement and public safety, as well as the many Fisher alumni who have served or continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces. Their commitment to serving others reflects values that remain especially meaningful on this day.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost. We honor those who answered the call to help. And we thank those who continue to choose service.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
