Drawing on a redesign of HBS’s FIELD Global Immersion program, HBS Professors Leonard A. Schlesinger and Joseph Fuller argue that “interpersonal competence” is a learnable capability that helps teams anticipate and navigate cognitive differences before they become performance problems. After introducing training and tools designed to build that capability, the number of student teams requiring faculty intervention for serious collaboration breakdowns fell from 45 to one.

In May, the HBS India Research Center, in partnership with Harvard Business Impact Education, hosted the second edition of the Doctoral Participant-Centered Learning (DPCL) Workshop in Mumbai.

Over the course of one and a half days, 72 doctoral scholars from leading business schools across India explored HBS’s participant-centered approach to teaching and learning. Led by Professors Rohit Deshpandé and Willis Emmons, the workshop focused on discussion-based teaching. Participants found the workshop insightful and gained practical strategies to foster active student participation.
