UW Bothell’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering program was recently recognized among the nation’s top cybersecurity graduate programs!

Ranked No. 9 among 25 programs nationwide, the MSCYBER program was recognized for its flexibility for working professionals, including evening classes and part-time enrollment options, as well as its broad range of elective classes and multiple culminating experience pathways. Students can choose a project, thesis, coursework or internship option to align their studies with their career goals.

The ranking also highlighted UW’s designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity Education (CAE-CD) and in Cybersecurity Research (CAE-R).

Over the summer, UW Bothell's Center for Biotechnology Innovation & Training held their BioImpact Summer Camp program, bringing high school students interested in biotechnology to campus.

Guy Hamilton, CBIT director and professor of practice in the Department of Biological Sciences, oversaw the program with an emphasis on hands-on learning experiences for students.

“We really want to get students excited about the opportunities in front of them as they’re thinking about their college career and, of course, to also show them what a cool place UW Bothell is," he said.

In five-day camps, the program covered a range of topics, from biotechnology entrepreneurship, biomedical devices, immunology and vaccine innovation and more, including teachings from Dr. Lori Robins, professor in the Department of Physical Sciences, whose research focuses on odor control in wound healing.

Did you know that a healthy tree canopy can improve the quality of life for residents? That’s exactly what recent graduates Oliver Souliere (CSSE minor '26) and Dan Nguyen (Biology '26) spent the summer doing, helping the city of Kenmore complete an urban tree inventory project through an internship with UW Bothell's Collaborative for Socio-Ecological Engagement.

Both Souliere and Nguyen aim to work in geographic information systems and mapping natural resources – exactly what this internship offered.

"This internship is super involved in the technologies required to go out and do this stuff in the real world," Souliere said.

After graduating in June, Mathematics alumna – and aspiring elementary school teacher – Cassandra Humarang ('26) worked with the UW Bothell Collaborative for Socio-Ecological Engagement internship program to improve accessibility children's learning experiences.

Humarang worked on CoSEE's Adaptive Library, a collection of children’s books designed to make environmental and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning more accessible for learners with diverse communication and support needs.

"One of my goals is to show that math is for everyone, it’s everywhere, and it can be fun,” she said. “The interactive books allow me to do this by thinking outside of the box and creating activities and elements relating to math that children may not realize.”

A new South Korea study abroad program co-led by Dr. Jong Yoon, professor in the Department of Engineering & Mathematics...

A new South Korea study abroad program co-led by Dr. Jong Yoon, professor in the Department of Engineering & Mathematics, took UW students to Yoon’s home country, where they learned about engineering and Korean culture and collaborated with students from Korean institutions to address real-world issues.

The 12-credit program featured three courses, where students participated in design challenges for a greenhouse watermelon farm, jumped at the opportunity to create an automatic film roller, learned about AI models for electrical vehicle charging, explored renewable energy innovations in Jeju Island and immersed themselves in Korean culture along the way.
