Cascadia College Diversity and Equity Center

Cascadia College Diversity and Equity Center THE CENTER is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for students, especially those who wish to learn more about diversity and inclusion.

We serve all students equally under Cascadia's non-discriminatory policy. The Center also provides resources to help students better understand and adjust to college life. In many occasions we also promote informal dialogues, originally programmed to help ESL and international students improve their conversational skills. Yet again, everyone is welcome! So... What are you waiting for? Jump in and

join us. What is Diversity? Diversity refers to social inclusiveness that is not limited to ethnic differences. It extends beyond the differences of socioeconomic status, personal beliefs, values, genders, physical appearance, disabilities, religion, political views, age, sexual orientation, and language. What is Equality? Equality means treating every person in a fair and flexible way. This entails recognizing that every person has different needs, and that some groups experience disadvantages, which can impede educational progress. What can you do at THE CENTER? Do homework - computer access
Speak up - Discuss any issues
Hang out and relax!

Dear Students,

The Campus Library’s Community Reads team hopes you are all having a safe and healthy last few weeks of the quarter. We want to remind everyone that our Spring Quarter content will only be open on Canvas (https://canvas.uw.edu/courses/1410914) for the next few weeks. The discussion boards are set to close on June 11th, the last day of the quarter, so if you mean to participate, please do so before then! We welcome you to read our spring essay, “Black Gold” (available through UW Libraries) http://offcampus.lib.washington.edu/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=nlebk&AN=2395505&site=ehost-live&ebv=EK&ppid=Page-__-213, respond to questions, or participate in activities.

We also want to remind everyone that the recording of this month’s Food Justice Panel can be found on Canvas as well, on our Food Justice Panel Event page (https://canvas.uw.edu/courses/1410914/pages/spring-2021-food-justice-panel-event-details). We encourage everyone who is able and has some time to watch the recording, hear from our incredible panelists, and respond to our reflection question (https://canvas.uw.edu/courses/1410914/discussion_topics/6346998?module_item_id=12816851).

If your end of the quarter is too busy to engage right now, we completely understand! All of our content will still be available on Canvas for a few weeks after discussion boards close, and can be accessed on our website (https://guides.lib.uw.edu/bothell/communityreads/sp21) for anyone who wants to use our additional resources, our vocabulary lists, or our discussion questions. Our event recording can also be viewed on this page (https://guides.lib.uw.edu/bothell/communityreads/foodjusticepanel21).

If you have any further questions or comments, please reach out to anyone in the Community Reads Team.

Hello Students,

I'm writing to remind you to invite your students to our 10th Annual Q***r Students of Color Conference (QSOCC), which will take place virtually on May 28-30, 2021. These three days will be filled with students from around the state of Oregon AND the country who come together to build community and share learnings.

The conference will have educational workshops, affinity groups, keynote speakers, panelists, and entertainment. This year's keynote speakers include the founder of the Transgender District in the Bay area, Aria Sa'id, executive director of Black and Pink, Dominique Morgan, and Stonewall veteran Miss Major Griffin-Gracy!

I have attached our marketing flyer for this year's QSOCC!. If you could please post these flyers in your q***r resource centers, diversity centers, multi-cultural centers, and share them with your relevant student organizations and networks, I would greatly appreciate it! Registration for QSOCC closes May 27th, 2021 at 5 pm PST.

Here is the link to our QSOCC page where you can find general conference information and our program from our last conference.

Hello Students,

Although the conference is canceled, It is with great pleasure to announce that our LGBTQ+ programming for the month of May and part of June is here. The A. We are asking that you all please register and support our LGBTQ+ events, and the student leaders that have worked hard to create intentional programs for our LGBTQ+ community, and our very own faculty that will be presenting. These events are open to students, community members, and other schools as well. Please enjoy the attached LGBTQ+ program and REGISTER NOW!!!!
