ORE student had a whirlwind week of bike advocacy in action!

He jumped in last-minute to present on behalf of the Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee to the Board of Supervisors.That presentation led to a CBS Sacramento interview with Evan and Austin on bicycle safety, following a year that has seen 10 bicyclist deaths on Sacramento-area roadways.

Looking ahead, Evan is preparing to propose a capstone project centered on bike advocacy that bridges dirt, gravel, and asphalt for both recreation and transportation — a space he sees as a real gap, since most advocates tend to focus on one or the other. Congratulations to ORE alum Louisa McBride! 🎉

Louisa moved to Carbondale, CO this winter and is now the Volunteer Coordinator at , helping provide outdoor recreation opportunities to individuals with disabilities — after volunteering with their adaptive skiing program over the winter. She's also found a new love for trail running, capping off the spring by completing the Leadville Marathon!

So proud of the work you're doing, Louisa — we miss you and are cheering you on. 🏔️

Volunteering is one of the best ways to explore different corners of the outdoor recreation economy — and get hands-on experience while you're at it.

Take the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association: their volunteer program brings people up to the backcountry huts for work weekends doing everything from trail work and re-vegetation to hut repairs and firewood stacking. Volunteers work as many or as few days as they like, and each day worked earns a free hut night to use later in the year.

It's a great example of how volunteering can connect you to land management, hospitality, and community-based recreation all at once — while getting you outside in some pretty incredible places. 🌲

What an incredible way to celebrate Colorado 150! 🏔️

Graduate Program and Graduate Program successfully completed the Decalibron Loop as part of the 14er Climb: Summit 2026 — a signature initiative of the Commemoration.

Organized under the Governor's direction alongside the .office and , teams across the outdoor recreation industry summited 14ers throughout the state on Colorado Day, all on the same day.

🎉 Fun Fact Friday: The OIA 2026 Outdoor Participation Trends Report is here!

→ 183.2M Americans got outside — an all-time high 📈
→ Growth slowed to 1.1% YoY (down from a 2.9% three-year avg)
→ Seniors 65+ added 800K participants in one year
→ Women hit a record 53.4% of participants
→ Hispanic participation grew 6.5%
→ But core participation dropped 3.9%, and the average participant logged 5 fewer outings than in 2019

More people are getting outside, but many are doing it less often — worth watching for anyone working in this industry.
