ORE student had a whirlwind week of bike advocacy in action!
He jumped in last-minute to present on behalf of the Sacramento County Bicycle Advisory Committee to the Board of Supervisors. That presentation led to a CBS Sacramento interview with Evan and Austin on bicycle safety, following a year that has seen 10 bicyclist deaths on Sacramento-area roadways.
For anyone wanting to better understand e-bike classification, one of the biggest points of contention in bike policy today, Evan shared CalBike's breakdown with helpful infographics: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/6tg8jbpccqi6viyg3ozmm/ACvAzkn4wxzaQTXNtftmKXE?rlkey=mevawy69twrblyi8zscd4e57q&e=1&st=qbt251bz&dl=0
Looking ahead, Evan is preparing to propose a capstone project centered on bike advocacy that bridges dirt, gravel, and asphalt for both recreation and transportation β a space he sees as a real gap, since most advocates tend to focus on one or the other. If you know anyone already working at that intersection, send them Evan's way!
This is advocacy and public engagement in real time β exactly the kind of work our ORE students are equipped to do. Way to go, Evan! π²
