In German Studies, we focus on all areas of German speaking cultures and their crucial roles in the formation of the modern world. At CU Boulder, our faculty have interdisciplinary interests, teaching and researching in fields that include language and literature, but also cross over into art history, critical race and ethnic studies, film studies, history, Jewish studies, philosophy, political sc

ience and gender studies. We offer exciting opportunities for study abroad in Regensburg or Berlin (as well as additional opportunities for engineering students). Our flexible major allows many of our students to double major in other fields. For more information, see the following links:

What do our students do with a major in German Studies? A major in German Studies is more than just learning the language, although our students receive excellent language preparation, too! Our students learn skills in critical analysis and creative problem-solving that serve them well in a range of careers. http://www.colorado.edu/gsll/careers-after-cu

✨ Discover the Magic and Mystery of Folklore! ✨

Hey, CU! Step into a world of storytelling this Maymester 2026 (5/4-5/21) with GRMN 2503: Fairy Tales and Folklore! Led by the brilliant and highly engaging Dr. Adrienne Merritt, this course immerses you directly into the oral tradition, having you actively record your own dramatic storytelling performances! You will tear down the "Disney spell" to explore the gritty, political, and cultural realities behind these narratives. You’ll analyze everything from the original Brothers Grimm and ancient tricksters to modern dark fantasy like Pan's Labyrinth and The Witcher. It all builds to an epic final project where you will write your very own original fairy tale!

⏳ Don't wait! Seats are limited, so be sure to secure your spot before this magical opportunity disappears!
