Another spooky novel for this week's Littérature Lundi 🎃 Moi, Tituba Sorcière by Maryse Condé takes the reader to Salem Massachusetts to see the trials from the perspective of Tituba, the supposed ring leader of the Salem witches. Any fan of historical fiction will enjoy this novel and it provides a unique (and important) post colonial take on the Salem witch trials 🐦‍⬛

🇺🇸 The Chorus (2004) is a heartwarming film about how one teacher changed the lives of his students through the power of music. Hired at an all-boys boarding school where the punishments are reactionary and severe, new music teacher Clément Mathieu (Gérard Jugnot) arrives and starts a choir, focusing on encouraging students and celebrating their successes.

This film was directed by Christophe Barratier. Actors include Gérard Jugnot, Jean-Baptiste Maunier, Kad Merad, and Maxence Perrin.

🇺🇸 It’s here! The French Club has compiled a playlist filled with popular French music, along with many favorites selected by CU French grad students and faculty. 🎶

The French Club will also have a Trivia night on Monday Nov, 13. One section of the trivia will be on music, containing titles specifically pulled from the playlist. For a chance to win a prize, take some time to prepare by listening to these wonderful artists!

If there are any songs you would like to see added to the playlist, reach out to a French professor. We would love to add music from a wider range of genres and francophone artists.

Today's book recommendation is Vingt mille lieues sous les mers by Jules Verne 🐠 This adventure book first started as a periodical piece which were very popular in the 19th century. It would have been released in short chapters every two weeks for readers. This particular novel takes the reader to several oceans to see unknown sights and encounter several underwater creatures🦑How do modern adventure books differ from Verne's? Who was the target audience of adventure periodicals? Consider the historical context, what message is this novel trying to convey?

Trois femmes puissantes features the struggle under gendered power and cultural expectations of women. While reading think about the following questions: What choices do these women make?
