Herbst Program for Engineering, Ethics & Society/ CU Boulder

Herbst Program for Engineering, Ethics & Society/ CU Boulder This program is in the College of Engineering/ University of Colorado "What does it mean to be human? What is happiness, and how do we attain it?

What is our relation to society and to each other? How do science and technology shape society?" These are just some of the questions raised in Herbst classes. In seminars and in lecture classes, Herbst uses the skills of reading, discussing, and writing to help students evolve into engaged communicators, robust thinkers, and life-long learners.

Congratulations to all CU graduates today, but especially to our Herbst students.

The annual gala of the University of Colorado Engineers Without Borders chapter took place last week. We congratulate these teams on their impressive accomplishments, as many of these students are taught by the Herbst Program in various global prep courses. We feel honored to be part of their journey. The University of Colorado/College of Engineering, the founding institution of Engineers Without Borders, is where it all began. Go Buffs!

Between heavy readings and discussions on technology and ethics, Herbst students learn to read art by actually copying pieces held in our local museums. It is not an exercise about becoming a good artist, but it is a way of being a critical observer, being able to relate details, gaining patience in a fast moving and demanding world. It is one of the most humbling exercises in our courses.
